The aim of the project is to facilitate the children’s arrival in the Austrian education system and in society through participation in playful language development courses in their free time. The courses also aim to provide the children with positive language experiences and to strengthen social interaction through selected activities in the courses. In addition to direct support for the children, free lectures and consultations on multilingual education and the Austrian education system are offered for parents, so that parents are strengthened in their role as important supporters of their children. The workshops are designed in such a way that the content is easy to understand for German learners.
The main criteria of the courses offered for children aged 0-14 are:
- Linguistically based language development (definition of language development goals)
- Playful work in small groups to tap into the children’s natural enthusiasm for learning
- Early approach – children of kindergarten age are also supported
The project is being implemented in Lower Austria, Vienna and Burgenland. The German courses are free of charge for children from third countries (non-EU). They take place once a week for 90-120 minutes during the school year.
This project is co-financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the Federal Chancellery.
